Taking an Information-Driven Approach to the Admissions Process

The parameters of admission to the nation’s top colleges are constantly under pressure for change. For many years, college admission was not a centered within public consciousness as it is now. However, today, in the wake of the admissions scandals of 2019 and 2020, college admissions has been drawn directly into the crosshairs of political power struggles. Most saliently, the Supreme Court’s 2023 affirmative action ruling, the politicization of standardized testing and its place in the admissions process, the challenging of longstanding practices of legacy admission, and the overhauling of leadership groups at many of the nation’s leading private institutions have resulted in an admissions terrain that is constantly shifting in terms of its priorities and standards.

From macroscopic trends in higher education to granular adjustments as detailed as standardized testing updates, we follow everything admissions related to put together a yearly picture of the admissions landscape, and of select institutions, so that our clients are backed by the absolute highest standard of admissions advising. We keep a repository of information at our disposal, both quantitative and qualitative, and go beyond simple recommendations—sharing the basis for our recommendations with our client families and opening up dialogue so that our clients are as informed as they can be as they make the series of decisions that make up the application process.

The first step—establishing a set of goals that are flexible to change while concentrated upon your family’s highest goals.

Ongoing prep & assessment

Test preparation and developing a college list are pathways that are intertwined and grow together. Score increases bring new colleges into the fold, and newly considered colleges can conversely push upon existing score targets.

Application, prep & tours

In the latter stages of prep, college lists and score targets jointly narrow, and efforts become focused around gathering information on, and applying successfully to, the top colleges on a family’s list.
